Nigerian consular procedures
Nigeria runs its consular work in the United States from three offices, and a good half of the paperwork people associate with them is issued somewhere else entirely. These eleven guides say who issues what, what it costs where a fee is published, and which step has to happen first.
The eleven guides
Each one covers a single document: what it is for, who issues it, what it costs where a fee is published, and which step has to happen before it.
By what they are for
The same eleven, grouped by the reason people need them. A document you assumed the consulate issues may well sit in another group entirely.
Travel documents
Passports, visas and the emergency document that replaces a passport when yours is gone.
Identity
The National Identification Number and consular registration. Neither is a travel document, and the passport process stops without the first.
Civil records
Birth certificates, police clearance, age declarations and the paperwork for repatriating remains. Nigeria issues these, not the consulates.
Citizenship
Dual nationality and the consent a child needs to travel.
nigerianconsulates.us is an independent guide to Nigeria’s consular offices in the United States. We are not the Nigerian Embassy, any Consulate General, or any government body.
We do not book appointments and we do not sell them. Details are checked regularly and can change without notice: confirm with the office before you travel.
