Nigerian consulate appointments
For a passport, the appointment is booked inside the national portal, passportintl.immigration.gov.ng, together with the application and the payment: the visit to the office is only for biometric capture, on the date the portal gives you. No office books passport appointments by phone or e-mail, and nobody can sell you a slot.
For everything else there is no single national booking system. Each office runs its own arrangements, and the figure that decides whether a journey is worth making is not the opening hours but which days the consular counter actually works.
How each office works
| Office | Opening hours | Consular days | Telephone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C. | Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 16:00 | No consular services on Fridays | (202) 800-7201, ext. 100 |
| Consulate General of Nigeria in New York | Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 13:00 | — | (212) 808-0301 |
| Consulate General of Nigeria in Atlanta | Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00 | Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, except public holidays | (770) 394-6261 |
The Embassy in Washington opens five days a week and provides no consular services on Fridays. Atlanta opens five days a week and handles consular business on three of them. New York opens the counter for three hours a day.
Visas are booked somewhere else
Visa applications do not go through any of these offices. Every applicant uses an external visa application centre, and appointments there are mandatory for every visit. The visa guide has the address and the exemptions.
Before you book
- Check which office covers your state. The split is by state and it does not follow the map
- Get your NIN first if the appointment is for a passport
- Put the names in the same order as your birth certificate
- Confirm the consular days, not just the opening hours
nigerianconsulates.us is an independent guide to Nigeria’s consular offices in the United States. We are not the Nigerian Embassy, any Consulate General, or any government body.
We do not book appointments and we do not sell them. Details are checked regularly and can change without notice: confirm with the office before you travel.
