Nigerian consulates in District of Columbia
Consular officeOther cities
The Embassy of Nigeria is in the District, on International Court off Van Ness. For anyone living in the city this is as close as Nigerian consular services get anywhere in the country.
Which office covers District of Columbia
Nigeria has not published a consular district covering District of Columbia. The Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C. is the only mission left once New York and Atlanta have listed theirs, and it is where people from District of Columbia are handled in practice.
The number, so you do not have to go looking for it: (202) 800-7201, ext. 100.
What you can settle from District of Columbia
Distance matters less for this half of the paperwork:
- National Identification Number, issued by the NIMC and needed before any passport application
- Passport application form, filled in online before you book anything
- Nigerian visa, applied for online, then lodged at an external centre
- Police clearance certificate, requested from the Nigeria Police Force, never from a consulate
The eleven procedure guides
One guide per document, with what each one asks for and where it is actually issued:
- Renewing a Nigerian passport in the United States
- Nigerian visas: the consulate is not where you apply
- NIN enrolment from abroad
- Emergency Travel Certificate
- Holding two passports
- Birth records and attestation
- Police clearance certificate
- Declaring your date of birth
- Repatriating remains to Nigeria
- Letter of authorisation for children under 18
- Registering with your consulate as a Nigerian abroad
The District is also one of the fifteen territories with no published district of its own, which is academic when the Embassy is a Metro ride away.
nigerianconsulates.us is an independent guide to Nigeria’s consular offices in the United States. We are not the Nigerian Embassy, any Consulate General, or any government body.
We do not book appointments and we do not sell them. Details are checked regularly and can change without notice: confirm with the office before you travel.
